Social Media/Networking: An E-ZPass to Musical Success?

The eruption of social media throughout this past generation has somehow, someway, had an impact on various aspects of life. This is especially true for things like education, friendships, and the news. For example, there are many individuals who create amazing friendships and bonds without ever seeing the other individual in person. We can now hear about an important news event the literal moment it happens. Missed a lesson in class, you are just one YouTube video away from catching up. The impact of social media is especially relevant in the world of music. Music isn't just a pastime or small hobby that people do when they get free. Music is one of the largest industries in the world, and for many individuals, music is their life. This means that their career is centered around gaining success in the musical industry. In the past, it was extremely hard to get yourself noticed in the music world as there has always been such a high saturation of talented individuals gunning for the same spots. With the introduction of social media, and networking through social media, the landscape of musical discovery had turned on its head. Gone are the days of needing to play on the street sides and subways to get noticed. Fame can simply be one Youtube video or Soundcloud post away. I will be researching the exact way social media sites helped propel individuals in their search for musical success. This includes how social media was introduced in the music game all the way to how in plays a role in 2018. However, even though you no longer need to leave your own house to release your music, has the path to musical success gotten easier, or even harder?
